The Ironton community will have the opportunity to view some contemporary art this month at Ohio University Southern as the The Trisolini Print Project makes its first stop at the regional campuses.
To celebrate the university's bicentennial, the traveling exhibition of
approximately 20 prints from the Kennedy Museum's Contemporary Print Collection will be on display at all the regional campuses.
The works will be on display at OUS from Monday until Nov. 6.
"I know there are some big name artists in the exhibit," said Gary Tillis, art coordinator for OUS. "From an artist's perspective, it will probably have a good draw for the Tri-State area."
Tillis said it has been part of the university's mission for several years to showcase traditional art such as the mother/daughter display that is currently being shown in the Collins Center, as well as the non-traditional, contemporary forms, such as these prints.
Featured artists include Richard Artschwager, Alice Aycock, Nancy Holt, Bruce Nauman, and Robert Stackhouse and many more. Styles include lithographs, embossing, collages and dry point.
The exhibition is accompanied by supplementary educational material including a catalog and text panel.
The Trisolini Print Project was created in 1978 by former Dean of the College of Fine Arts Henry Lin and coordinated by master printer and artist Professor Donald Roberts.
Contemporary artists, with little or no printmaking experience, were invited into the School of Art's print workshop to put down new concepts in print media. These artists produced a body of printed work that is still widely displayed today.
Though the project came to a close nearly 20 years ago, residencies, collaborations and prints are still produced to continue the tradition established by Lin.
"The spirit of the Trisolini Print Project continues today in Ohio University's renowned printmaking program, which continues to bring artists into the studio to realize ideas in the print medium," James B. Wyman, director of the Kennedy Museum, said in a written statement.
The campus tour will be at Zanesville in January and February, Chillicothe in March, St. Clairsville in April and Lancaster in May.
