Local schools head to weekend band competitions

This weekend will wrap up the band competitions for the year.

Dawson-Bryant High School competed this past Saturday at Bloom-Carroll High School in Carroll, where Ironton High School competed in Newark and received a superior rating.

Both schools are qualified to compete in the state finals this weekend.

On Saturday, Dawson-Bryant will be heading for state competition at Dublin-Coffman High School in Dublin, qualifying in the C Class, performing at 1:45 p.m. Saturday.

Ironton High School will be traveling to Dayton to Welcome Stadium to perform in the class B competition for state. They will be performing at 2:45 p.m. Sunday.

Chesapeake and South Point will not be going to state competitions this year, however, they will be competing Saturday at the Marshall University Band Competition. There will be 29 bands competing.

Directions to Dublin-Coffman High School are as follows.

Travel to Columbus and take I-270 to the North West side of town. Exit I-270 at State Route 161 East. Go to the first light (Franz Road) and turn left. Travel to Coffman Road and turn right. Busses are to enter the main parking lot on the north side of the school. Visitors, from Coffman Road, are to turn right on Emerald Parkway. Park in the Verizon lot on the right.

Directions to Welcome Stadium are as follows.

Take I-75 to Edwin C. Moses Blvd. Exit 51 in Dayton Stadium is at 1601 South Edwin C. Moses Blvd. The stadium can be seen from I-75. Cars are to enter at Lot "O" and buses are to enter at Lot "C."
