Everyone in the system will benefit from the Ironton Catholic Schools' annual turkey dinner. Well, everyone except for the turkeys.

From 1-5 p.m. Sunday, the Ironton Catholic Schools' Support Organization will have its annual turkey dinner in the St. Joseph Catholic Church basement. The dinner is the organization's largest fund-raiser.

"We rely on almost all parents from both schools, and individuals such as friends or family of the children come to help as well," said Sissy Clyse of the school's development office.

More than 2,000 dinners are cooked and served by volunteers. This year, Clyse said the organization plans to bake 75 22-24 pound turkeys and 150 different desserts. At the same time as the turkey dinner, the organization will also have a craft and bake sale, in which parents and other individuals donate craft items or baked goods. Each year, Bonnie Weber-McGorn, owner of Weber's Florist donates a wreath, and gift baskets will be raffled this year.

In past years, the support organization has used the money raised by the annual event to provide funding for athletic coaches' salaries, purchase supplies and offset other miscellaneous expenses such as roof repairs at St. Lawrence Elementary, playground equipment, televisions, computers and other things students may need. Throughout the year, the support organization conducts other events that support students such as pie sales, Clyse said.

The cost of the dinner is $7 for adults and $4 for children. Carryouts are available.
