Fairland wrestlers 2nd at Meigs

POMEROY - The second-year program started its season second.

After restarting wrestling last season, the Fairland Dragons placed second in the Meigs Invitational round robin tournament Saturday.

Jackson won the tournament with a 5-0 record while Fairland was 4-1. Meigs was next at 3-2 followed by Parkersburg, W.Va., at 2-3, Vinton County 1-4 and Federal Hocking 0-5.

The Dragons had five first-place finishers, two were second and one third.

"We had a pretty good showing for only our second year," Fairland coach William Chambers said. "Last year Jackson beat us something like 79-6 and this year it was 47-38."

Leading the way for Fairland was Cameron Clark with a first place finish at 125 pounds. Clark went 5-0 and was a finalist for the tournament's Most Valuable Wrestler award.

Also finishing first were Justin Hayes (5-0) at 119 pounds, Casey Galligan (5-0) at 160, and Brad Malone was 5-0 to win the 215-pound division. Justin Lucas went 4-1 and won the 152 class.

Timmy Layne at 145 and Michael Evans at 112 pounds each went 4-1 and placed second.

Claiming third place was Chuck Wentz with a 3-2 record in the 103 class.

Fairland hosts Spring Valley and Johnson Central at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
