Eastern edges Lady Bobcats in OT

BEAVER - The Green Lady Bobcats gave an extra effort, but the Eastern Lady Eagles got the win with extra duty.

Green made a bid to upset Eastern, but the Lady Eagles managed to win 59-56 in overtime Thursday.

"It was just a good game all the way through. We had our chances, we just lost. We played as hard as we have all year," Green coach Melissa Knapp said.

Freshman Brittney Helton hit a pair of 3-pointers to put Eastern up six points in overtime. Green's Traci Elrod made a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to three, but Eastern was able to hold on for the win.

"We missed a lot of easy shots early and we missed some crucial free throws down the stretch. But it was a great effort. There were so many times they could have quit but wouldn't," Knapp said.

Rebecca Day scored 6 points in the first quarter as Eastern took a 12-6 lead. Meagan Pierce had 6 points in the second quarter as the Lady Bobcats closed to within 21-18 at the half.

Kayla Ison had 6 points in the third quarter for the Eagles, but Green stayed within 33-30 as Chelsey Pierce scored 5 points.

Meagan Pierce pumped in 11 points in the fourth quarter as Green tied the game at 47-47 and forced the overtime.

Meagan Pierce- who had 15 points the second half - led Green with a game-high 29 points.

Day got 19 points and Helton 12 for the Lady Eagles.

Green hosts Portsmouth East Monday in an SOC game
