HAMILTON TOWNSHIP - A logging accident in Hamilton Township Monday afternoon has left a
man in fair condition.
The victim has been identified as Bill Wafford. It is not known where he is from, his age, or with whom he is employed with.
Hamilton Township Assistant Fire Chief said Wafford was working in an area off Rock Hollow Road at approximately 2 p.m. when he was apparently run over by a logging skidder, a four-wheel-drive piece of machinery that is used to bring logs out of forested areas.
"We think something might have broken on the skidder, and it started downhill. He apparently tried to jump off of it and it rolled over him," Goff said.
Wafford was taken to King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. and later transferred to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.
The heavily wooded area in which Wafford was working made it difficult for emergency workers to reach him. Hamilton firefighters and SEOEMS personnel were assisted by Upper Township firefighters, who used their off-road rescue buggy in the effort to help the man.
