Female Flyers notch second straight win

For the first time in years, the St. Joseph Female Flyers are on a winning streak.
Coming off an upset win over Portsmouth East last week, the Female Flyers won their second straight with a 52-46 victory Monday over the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings.
"We're playing as a team and that's the key. They have a long way to go, but they're young and they're going to get better," Flyers coach Paul Webb said.
St. Joseph (2-3) was led by Christina Harvey with 18 points and Raven Blake scored 15. Lindsay Dressel added seven points and Sarah Webb six.
Rebecca Capper had 16 points to top the Lady Vikings (3-4). Megan Coomes came off the bench to score eight, Leslie Floyd added seven and Brittney Wilson six.
St. Joseph jumped in front 14-5 in the first quarter as Harvey and Black scored six points each.
The lead was 28-18 at the break as Blake got five more points and Mallory Hasenauer came off the bench to score all three of her points. Coomes scored four to keep the Lady Vikings close.
The Lady Vikings rallied in the third quarter as Wilson and Capper had four points each and it was 38-32.
But Webb hit a key 3-pointer, Harvey had five points and the Female Flyers were 6 of 13 at the line to preserve the win.
"We broke their press and then we set up our offense. We played our game," coach Webb said. "The thing I stress is to have patience. Symmes Valley has a nice team and Lisa Bryant is a heck of coach."
Symmes Valley hosts Trimble Saturday while St. Joseph plays at Fairview Monday, Jan. 5.
