Those who opted for a real Christmas tree are often left in a quandary when the holidays are over: what to do with that large chunk of wood besides set it out for the trash collectors?

Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste District officials

and Wayne National Forest officials are asking area residents to recycle their unwanted real trees.

The forest service will collect unwanted trees and use them as habitat for fish in

Lake Vesuvius which is currently being refilled.

Trees can be dropped off at seven designated sites throughout the county from Dec. 26 until Jan. 5, 2004. Those sites are: Lawrence County Fairgrounds in Proctorville; the vacant lot beside the South Point Village Hall in South Point; the vacant lot beside the Coal Grove Village Hall in Coal Grove; the vacant lot located at the junction of Shawnee Trail and State Route 141 (across from Cooks Farm Supply) in Ironton; the vacant lot behind the Hanging Rock Village Hall in Hanging Rock; the U.S. Forestry Service lot at State Route 93 in Pedro; and the Kroger's parking lot at 901 Ohio River Road in Wheelersburg.

All drops will be roped off with yellow caution tape and identified with signs.
