SOUTH POINT - Sharing the spotlight is what's keeping South Point's chances bright.

The "one for all and all for one" philosophy was the difference Friday as the South Point Pointers beat the Coal Grove Hornets 65-39 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

"We don't have any superstars. We have to play together as a team to be successful, and we did that tonight," Pointers coach Mark Lafon said.

The Pointers balanced offense placed four players in double figures. Quentin Smith and Justin Workman scored 11 points each while Seth Craft and Aaron Quinn had 10 each.

Craft also had eight rebounds and Smith six. Caleb Copley handed out four assists for the Pointers, 5-6 and 2-2 in the OVC.

Brandon Rymer scored 10 points for Coal Grove, 4-6 and 0-4.

Copley hit two straight baskets and Smith followed with a bucket and a 3-pointer as the Pointers took a 17-10 lead in the first quarter.

"That got us started in the right direction," Lafon said.

While the offense was scoring 17 more points in the second quarter, the defense limited the Hornets to just three field goals the first half. Coal Grove managed to connect on 14 of 19 free throw attempts to trail 34-20 at the break.

Six different Pointers scored in the third quarter to maintain a comfortable lead at 46-31.

"We got a lot of transition buckets the third quarter and that was the key. We forced them to take shots quicker than they wanted," Lafon said.

Quinn scored six points in the fourth quarter and the Pointers converted 6 of 6 from the line to win going away.

Craft had the highlight of the quarter with a shot from behind the backboard that hit nothing but net.

"That ought to be on some kind of highlight reel," Lafon said.
