PEDRO - First, they had it. Then they lost it. Next, they found it again. And finally, they won.

The Rock Hill Redwomen got a big lead, struggled, then bounced back and went on to beat the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 53-35 Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

"The first quarter we played with a lot of defensive intensity. We missed shots and lost our intensity, but then we regrouped at the half and we came out and played hard," Redwomen coach Bob Wilds said.

Marie Bamer scored eight points in the first quarter and the defense held Coal Grove to four points as the Redwomen went up 17-4.

But Rock Hill made just 1-of-13 field goal attempts in the second quarter as Coal Grove closed the gap to 24-16 at the break.

"We played hard. We didn't play well in the second quarter, but Coal Grove came out and played real well. Coach (Nick) Miller has done a nice job with a young team," Wilds said.

The halftime talk worked as Rock Hill outscored the Lady Hornets 14-6 as Bamer scored nine more points to make it 38-22.

Monica Bamer and Keshia Rupp scored four points each and Marie Bamer five points in the fourth quarter as Rock Hill coasted to the win.

Marie Bamer scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Monica Bamer had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Redwomen (4-9, 3-3 OVC).

Chelsea Markins had 10 points and Tracy Tackett nine to pace the Lady Hornets (8-7, 0-6).

On Saturday, Rock Hill plays at Wellston in a varsity-only game starting at 1 p.m.

Coal Grove hosts River Valley Monday.
