AID - The competition was good, but the Rock Hill Redwomen were up to the challenge.

Rock Hill won three out of four games Friday and Saturday in the Symmes Valley annual Thunder in the Valley softball classic.

"It was two long days, but the girls played really well," Rock Hill coach Mary Harper said. "We beat three really good teams and got beat by another really good team."

The Redwomen blanked Minford 1-0 in the first game on Friday behind Bobbi Harper's one-hitter.

Rock Hill scored the only run in the fourth inning on singles by Marie Bamer, Candace Chaffins and Kay Wilson.

In the second game, North Ridgeville took a 3-0 lead in the second inning only to have Rock Hill mount a comeback to win 4-3.

The Redwomen got a run in the third inning on singles by Keshia Rupp and Monica Bamer.

A run scored in the fourth when Shelli Harper walked, Melissa McFann was safe on an error, Kay Wilson walked, and a wild pitch.

Rock Hill won the game with two runs in the fifth when Monica Bamer walked, Bobbi Harper was safe on an error, and Shelli Harper singled.

Mandy Estep picked up the win as she racked up 10 strikeouts and walked just one.

The third game went to extra innings as Rock Hill pulled out a 6-5 win in nine innings.

The winning run scored when Cassie Chaffins, Mandy Estep and Keshia Rupp all singled to load the bases. Then Rupp was caught in a rundown as Chaffins scored.

In the final game, Rock Hill suffered its first loss of the season as Amherst Steel took a 9-0 win as Swierz threw a four-hitter. The Redwomen were plagued by seven errors that led to four unearned runs.

The Redwomen are now 12-1.
