PORTSMOUTH - Lori Harmon has a way of dispersing any of coach Jeff "Odie" Estep's worries.
With the Lady Vikings idle the past week due to the annual senior trip, Symmes Valley was back in action Tuesday with Lori Harmon pitching a no-hitter in a 10-0 blanking of the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans.
"I was concerned with the seniors having such a long layoff. Notre Dame is second in our league. I wasn't sure how we'd come out and play," Estep said.
Harmon racked up 19 strikeouts among the 21 outs and did not walk a batter.
"Lori looks like she's getting stronger every outing," Estep said.
Symmes Valley is now 12-3 overall and 9-1 in the Southern Ohio Conference. A win against Portsmouth Clay Wednesday would clinch the league title outright.
The Lady Vikings took a 4-0 lead in the first inning.
With one out, Stephanie Burns singled, stole second and took third on a ground out. Kayla Bowman was safe on an error and then Rebecca Capper singled for the first run.
Erin Martin doubled home two more runs, a passed ball sent Martin to third and she scored on a base hit by Kristin Crabtree.
The lead went to 5-0 in the fourth.
Jodi Black singled, moved up on a wild pitch and a stolen base. She came home when Cassie Myers put down a squeeze bunt.
Symmes Valley scored three times in the fifth inning.
Harmon and Bowman were safe on errors and Capper singled home a run. Martin walked and Megan Coomes singled up the middle to drive in two runs.
The final two runs scored in the sixth inning.
Burns singled, Harmon forced her out at second, and Bowman doubled for a run. Capper hit into a fielder's choice as Bowman came home.
