CHESAPEAKE - Now, that's teamwork.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The son of Randy Ayers, former coach of the Philadelphia 76ers and Ohio State, has committed to play basketball at Notre Dame in the fall of 2005.

Ryan Ayers said he called Notre Dame coach Mike Brey on Wednesday to announce his decision.

"It’s the best place for me,"Ayers told the South Bend Tribune.

The 6-foot-6, 190-pound Ayers averaged 16.8 points, eight rebounds and four assists a game this season for Germantown Academy in Fort Washington, Pa.

He is the third high school junior to commit to Notre Dame so far. Last week, Luke Zeller, a 6-11 center from Washington, Ind., announced he would attend Notre Dame. The Irish also have a commitment from 6-7 forward Zach Hillesland of Toledo, Ohio.

Under NCAA rules, Brey is prohibited from commenting on any commitment until early November, when the junior class can officially sign letters of intent.
