PROCTORVILLE - The Chesapeake Panthers got just about everything they wanted.

Although finishing as district champions obviously would have been better, the Panthers were pleased with their Division III district runner-up trophy and a wave of regional qualifiers.

Wheelersburg won the meet with 163 points and the Panthers were next at 139, edging South Webster by three points.

"We were pretty happy to be second and get a lot of people out. We lost to Wheelersburg three times and we've split with South Webster, so it was a pretty good effort on the part of our kids," Panthers coach Phil Davis said.

Individually, the top four finishers in each event qualifiy for the regionals.

Scott Davidson broke his own school record in the pole vault as he cleared 13-6 to win the event.

The 4×800 relay finished second as Zach Morrison, Josh Ross, Adam Slone and Caleb McComas ran a 9:02.3.

Chad Simmons won the long jump with a leap of 19-6 and one-half. Justin Porter and Brent Ransbottom went 3-4 in the high jump while Kory Thomas placed fourth in the discus.

In the 100 meter dash, Tristan Clark was first and Cody Hunt third.

Clark and Hunt joined Simmons and Caleb Robbins to win the 4×100 relay, and the same group placed second in the 4×200 relay.

The 4×400 team of Robbins, John Warner, Caleb McComas and Zach Morrison took first place.

Morrison was fourth in the 400 meter dash. McComas was second in the 800 meter run.

Jeff Thornburg was fourth in both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles and Vernon Browning was fourth in the pole vault.

Coal Grove advance junior shot putter Jimmy Lemon with a throw of 46-10.5. Wheelersburg's Nick Warner edged Lemon by one-quarter of an inch on his final throw.

The Hornets Trent Blankenship cleared 10-6 and finished second in the pole vault.

In the girls' meet, Wheelersburg slipped past Belpre by three points, 139-136.

Chesapeake was third with 77 points.

The Lady Panthers 4×400 relay team of Veronica Perko, Katie Bennett, Brittany Montgomery and Lisa Perry had a winning time of 4:24.0.

Perko also won the 800 meter run and joined Ashley Roach, Montgomery and Perry to win the 4×200 relay.

Stacey Dingus cleared 7-6 to finish third in the pole vault. Montgomery and Dingus went 2-3 in the long jump.

Ashley Bragg, Ashley Roach, Holli Robertson and Dingus were fourth in the 4×100 relay.

The regional meet will be Wednesday and Friday at Lancaster.
