LUCASVILLE - "The Rule" was the difference.

When softball games are tied after nine innings, the international tiebreaker is used in which a batter who made the final out in the ninth inning is placed on second base to begin the 10th inning and the game proceeds

Tied 5-5 after nine innings Saturday in the Division III District finals, the Rock Hill Redwomen and Zane Trace Lady Pioneers went to "the rule" and it worked.

For Zane Trace.

The Lady Pioneers got a run in the bottom of the 10th inning to win 6-5 and advance to the regionals.

"It was just a tough one to lose. They girls played great ball and I'm really proud of them," Rock Hill coach Mary Harper said.

In the 10th inning, Amanda Renner was placed on second base to start the inning. Allison Cox then singled to put runners on the corners. Anna Gray was safe on an error as the runner scored.

Rock Hill broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the third inning.

Melissa McFann singled and took second on a throwing error. Kayla Wilson singled and stole second to put runners at second and third. Marie Bamer then doubled the runners home.

The lead went to 3-0 in the fourth inning as Marie Bamer singled and Bobbi Harper tripled.

Rock Hill scored two more runs in the top of the fifth inning to lead 5-0.

Cassy Chaffins and Keshia Rupp scored on a long single by Harper.

Zane Trace then scored five runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

Manasco singled, a walk and a fielder's choice loaded the bases. Workman had a two-run single. A throwing error on a bunt and the return throw home was off line as two more runs scored.

The Redwomen banged out 12 hits with Bobbi Harper going 2-3 with two intentional walks. Melissa McFann was 2-4 and Monica Bamer and Keshia Rupp 2-5 each.

Rock Hill finishes the season 18-8. Zane Trace is now 22-6.
