Kitten rescued from drain

If cats really do have nine lives, one kitty in Ironton is resting comfortably now and no doubt hoping life number two is less eventful than life number one.
The cat was rescued Friday night during a severe storm from a storm drain on South Fourth Street. Someone called Ironton police and said the feline had fallen into it.
Police officer Beth Rist and Ironton Fire Department Capt. Mike Hasenauer and firefighters Daryle Foglesong, Scott Cunningham and Mike Misner worked to lift the heavy grate and free the trapped animal.
"I thought it was dead," Rist. "I think someone put it in the gutters and it probably washed a whole block."
Rist said she took the cat home and later gave it to the Lawrence County Humane Society in hopes someone will want to adopt the kitty.
Humane Society treasurer Alberta Gay Wise said the eight-week-old cat's body temperature was very low when Rist brought it to her, and it was unable to stand. With some love and attention, the kitten has rebounded.
Wise said anyone who wants to adopt the cat may call her at 532-6624. The human society does offer a certificate to help with the cost of spaying or neutering.
