Ironton police are warning elderly residents to be wary of people who go door to door and solicit work.
"Apparently, (a) man is offering to do work for them, but once he gets the money from them he's not coming back to do the work," Ironton Police Detective, Capt. Jim Carey said. "He's offering to paint awnings, wash siding, make repairs."
Three people have told police they have lost money to the scam artists last week.
The suspect is described as
a white male in his mid-30s. One victim said he had light hair and another said he had brown hair. One of the victims said he had another, younger man with him when he came to their house and asked for work.
Carey said anyone who is approached with such an offer should contact the police department at 532-2338.
