Put the calculators aside. It's time to size things up.

The count is in and most area high schools will fall in the same divisions this fall under the Ohio High School Athletic Association playoff system.

The OHSAA breakdown in divisions is based on the number of boys in the upper three grades (10-12). Freshmen will not be included until the next count in the fall.

Actually, the count won't come for two years since schools narrowly passed a law to count enrollments every two years. Schools officials blundered with the decision because schools will be able to recruit players

beyond the division enrollment size and not be put in a different division due to the delayed count.

The enrollment breakdown for this season has Division I for schools with 514 or more boys, Division II for 353 to 513, Division III for 262 to 352, Division IV 184 to 261, Division V 131 to 183 and Division VI for 130 or less.

Ironton will remain in Division IV as will Ohio Valley Conference members Rock Hill, River Valley, South Point and Fairland.

Two other OVC teams, Coal Grove and Chesapeake, will be in Division V again.

Symmes Valley and Green continue to play in Division VI.

The Southern Ohio Conference

has Waverly missing the jump to Division III by just two boys. Waverly has a count of 259.

Other Division IV teams are Northwest and Portsmouth West. Minford is Division V by just one boy (182) while Lucasville Valley, Wheelersburg and Oak Hill are all in Division V.

Besides Symmes Valley and Green, other SOC teams in Division VI are East and Portsmouth Notre Dame.
