An Ironton area man was arraigned Tuesday in Ironton Municipal Court on murder charges stemming from the death of an Ellisonville Ridge Road man Friday.

Ironton Municipal Court Judge O. Clark Collins set bond at $150,000 cash for Carlos L. Jenkins, 39, of 842 County Road 180. He will be back in court Thursday for a preliminary hearing.

As he entered the rear of the Ironton City Center for his arraignment, reporters asked him if he committed the murder. Jenkins replied, "I didn't do it."

John Turvey, 45, of 960 County Road 103 (Ellisonville Ridge Road) was found dead at his home at approximately 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Lawrence County Sheriff Tim Sexton said an autopsy revealed that Turvey had been shot four times, but Sexton has declined to comment on a motive, or say if the two men were acquainted and how they knew each other, if they did.

The Turvey murder means Lawrence County Prosecutor J. B. Collier and his staff have more than a full plate to contend with: this is the second murder case this year.

In August, Ironton police arrested Roger Marshal for the deaths of three people at the Lyle Motel. That case

may go to trial later this year, Collier said.

"We're fortunate that this is not an every day occurrence," Collier said. "We have crime but it certainly doesn't compare with the larger cities, Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago and places like that. Because of this we tend to prosecute murders a little more vigorously. We do take this very seriously."
