CHILLICOTHE - Ohio Department of Transportation Director Gordon Proctor has announced that Harry Fry has been named as the deputy director for ODOT District 9.

"This is the key administrative position for the district, and I am pleased that Harry will be taking the reigns," said Proctor. "With his wide range of experience, Harry will bring a wealth of knowledge to the field and will be a valuable asset to the department."

Fry's experience spans a 32-year career of state service with the Ohio Department of Public Safety, having worked for the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) and the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (OBMV).

Fry joined the OSHP in 1972, working first at the St. Mary's post then the Marion post. He then served as sergeant of the Chillicothe post and was later named commander of the Ironton post. Since 1992, Fry has been with the BMV, serving most recently as the District 2 (Lancaster) assistant chief.

"I'm looking forward to the new challenges this position will bring, and I am excited about the opportunity to keep the district moving forward," Fry said.

As the ODOTs District 9 deputy director, Fry will be responsible for a staff of approximately 345 employees and the core processes within the district, which includes Adams, Brown, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross and Scioto counties.

While instituting the policies and practices of ODOT, Fry will oversee the district's planning, production, highway management and business and human resources departments.

A native of Marion, Fry graduated from Marion-Harding High School in 1969, and was drafted by the Cleveland Indians. Following a two-year stint in MLB, he went on to attend school at Ohio University, The Ohio State University and Northwestern University.

Fry currently resides in Ironton, with his wife of 34 years, Roxanne. They are the parents of three and the grandparents of four.
