DEERING - Frank Bryant held up a dirty piece of metal and gestured.
"There's still some blood on it," he said. Earlier this week, Bryant's Rottweiler, Homer, hobbled home with the metal trap still attached to his leg - but his leg was barely attached. It was nearly severed, Bryant said.
Surgery may have saved the leg, but Bryant is furious. He wants to know who set the trap and why.
"As far as I know the neighbors wouldn't do this," Bryant said. "I have no idea why someone would do this. They used to sell furs but I don't think they do anymore."
Homer left the Bryant property last Saturday. Two days later, the dog returned injured. Dr. Lewis Motycka reattached the paw.
"If anything was ever cruel, this is," Motycka said. "I hated to hear it. It took off about 90 percent of the paw. I stitched it up again but it was quite a piece of surgery."
Bryant filed a report with the sheriff's office.
As the dog's injury heals, Bryant is looking for answers. "I'd like to catch someone doing it," he said. "If I do they're going to think trap!"
