Playoff teams await status

Now the wait begins.

The Ironton Fighting Tigers, Chesapeake Panthers and Symmes Valley Vikings are all awaiting official word on their playoff opponents and sites. The Ohio High School Athletic Association is expected to make that announcement Sunday afternoon.

Ironton, 9-1, will be No. 1 in Region 15 of Division IV and should play at home Friday against the No. 8-seed Westfall Mustangs, 7-3.

The rest of the Region 15 pairings should have (7) West Muskingum at )2) Martins Ferry, (6) Wellston at (3) Bellaire and (5) Portsmouth visiting (4) New Albany.

In Region 19 of Division V, No. 5 Chesapeake (8-2) will play Saturday at West Lafayette Ridgewood (9-1) which was the No. 4 seed.

No. 1 Amanda-Clearcreek hosts (8) Johnstown Monroe, (7) Nelsonville-York travels to (2) Wheelersburg, and (6) Crooksville is at (3) Johnstown Northridge.

Symmes Valley (8-1) finished as the No. 2 seed in Region 23 of Division VI and will host its first playoff game, probably against Marion Catholic(7-2).

Top-seed Frontier will host (8) Beallsville, (3) Newark Catholic is at home with (6) Zanesville Bishop Rosecrans, and (4) Trimble welcomes (5) Lancaster Fisher Catholic.

Divisions II, IV and VI play at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays while Divisions I, III and V are at 7 p.m. on Saturdays.
