ROME TOWNSHIP- Two fires and a false alarm for help kept Rome Township firefighters busy over the weekend.

An outbuilding at a residence on Township Road 1309 was destroyed by fire Saturday. Rome Township Volunteer Fire Department Deputy Chief Mike Boster said the fire may have been caused by a misplaced cigarette.

On Sunday, one mobile home was destroyed and two others damaged in a fire on Montroso Street. Boster said the occupant told firefighters she had put a pan of oil on the stove, walked away and when she came back the kitchen was on fire.

The mobile home was a total loss. Two mobile homes on either side of it suffered heat damage. No one was injured.

Boster said when the Sunday fire broke out, firefighters were investigating a call for help that turned out to be a false alarm.

"We want to caution people not to cause false alarms to be made," Boster said. "In this instance we were looking for someone who was supposed to have been hurt and we had firefighters scattered across the ends of the earth."
