Fairland wrestlers place 10, take 4th in Meigs tourney

POMEROY - One bad apple didn't spoil the whole bunch for the Fairland Dragons wrestling team.

Despite one bad match, the Dragons put together a strong showing as they placed fourth in the Meigs Invitational Saturday to start the regular season.

Fairland was 2-1 in dual matches with the only loss to Jackson.

"We didn't wrestle well against Jackson, but the boys stepped it up and wrestled well the rest of our matches," Fairland coach Chuck Wentz said.

The Dragons had 10 wrestlers place including two first-place finishers.

Tim Lane took first place in the 152-pound class as he went unbeaten on the day. Cameron Clark won in the 135 class as he beat the wrestler in the final whom he lost to in an earlier match.

Finishing second were Dave Goodall at 112 pounds, Michael Evans at 125 and Joey Ruggles at 189.

Third place finishers were Chuck Wentz, son of the head coach, in the 103-pound division, Jeremy Thomas at 171 and Michael Blatt at 189. Justin Hayes at 119 and Josiah Eddy at 160 took fourth place.

Gallipolis won the tournament with 101 points followed by Jackson with 93, Parkersburg South, W.Va. 83, Fairland 73, Parkersburg, W.Va., 59, Meigs 32 and Wellston 26.

The Dragons host their own invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday with a seven team field from across the Tri-State.
