OAK HILL - It was time to go to work.
The Coal Grove Hornets didn't play around Tuesday night as they took a workmanlike 48-25 win over the Oak Hill Oaks.
Coach Darrell Humphreys was concerned heading into the game that the Hornets might not be ready to play, especially with Ohio Valley Conference opponent River Valley next on the schedule.
"We took care of business and now we have to get ready for a big league game Friday," Humphreys said.
"We haven't played in a week, we've had some guys sick and some guys miss practice with injuries, so it could have been real easy to overlook this team."
Randy Wise had 13 points and three steals as the Hornets took care of the Oaks. Adam Bare added 9 points and five rebounds.
"Bare had another nice game. We like the way he's playing right now. Matt Melvin got his first start and did some nice things defensively. We're going to need our bench as we get into league play," Humphreys said.
Garland Stiltner scored 11 points for the Oaks.
Zach Huber scored all 4 of his points and Wise hit a 3-pointer in the first quarter as Coal Grove took a 13-7 lead. Mike Crabtree and Nathan White had 4 points each for the Oaks.
The Hornets pulled away to a 28-15 halftime lead as Justin Hyland had 4 points in the second quarter for the Hornets.
Wise scored 6 points and Bare got 5 more as the Hornets opened up a 41-21 lead after three quarters.
