Dragons 4th at Johnson Central

PAINTSVILLE, Ky. –The Fairland Dragons placed 10 wrestlers as they finished fourth in the sixth annual Johnson Central Invitational Saturday.
"We were in a very tough pool. There were four teams with full squads and three were in our pool," Fairland coach Chuck Wentz said. "But we wrestled very well. We only lost to Tates Creek by 9 points and Sheldon Clark by 6."
Tates Creek won with 87 points. Johnson Central was second with 85 points followed by Sheldon Clark with 71, Fairland 67, Lawrence County 53, Perry County 50, Logan, W.Va., 29, Gilbert, W.Va., and Man, W.Va., 14 each, and Pike County 12.
Placing first individually for Fairland were Tim Layne at 152 pounds and Daniel Cardwell at 215.
Layne is now 17-0 on the season.
Second place went to Michael Evans at 119. Finishing third were Chuck Wentz at 103, Camron Clark at 135, Jeremy Thomas at 160 and Joey Ruggles at 189.
Fourth were Dave Goodall at 112, Brandon Lang at 130 and Michael Blatt at 215.
The Dragons wrestle Dec. 30 at Gallipolis.
In the junior high meet, Fairland placed six of its nine wrestlers.
Placing first were Ricky Carter in the 230-pound division, Dillon McGuire at 96 and Garrett Wireman at 103.
Zac Fannin was second at 140, Brandon Russell third at 124 and Adam Gerrell fourth at 124.
Carter has won three matches this season and has a 20-0 record.
