The St. Joseph Female Flyers were like a car engine on a cold day. After a slow start, they ran quite well.
Although the Female Flyers struggled in the first quarter, they got rolling in the second quarter and went on to beat the South Gallia Lady Rebels 41-28 Monday.
"We were feeling our way around the first quarter, but once we got going we played pretty well," St. Joseph coach B.J. Hannon said.
The game was tied three times in the first quarter before St. Joseph took an 8-6 lead on a basket by Christina Harvey with two seconds on the clock.
Harvey and Danielle Blair scored to start the second quarter and give St. Joseph a 12-6 lead.
A three-point play by Lindsay Dressel at the 1:13 mark extended the lead to 17-9 and Raven Blake scored just before the end of the half to make it 19-9.
Dressel scored to start the third quarter and Mallory Hasenauer sank two foul shots with 6:49 on the clock and it was 22-9.
Chelsea Canaday scored for South Gallia to stop the run, but Blair made a pair of free throws with 2:07 left in the quarter and it was 26-11.
