COAL GROVE - First, the inside close down. Next, the outside dried up. And finally, the door was shut on the Coal Grove Hornets.

The Hornets shooting dried up Saturday night on the inside and outside as they fell 53-45 to the Peebles Indians.

"We played well early. We pounded the ball down inside early, but it became harder as the game went on and we had some open perimeter shots that wouldn't go down," Hornets coach Darrell Humphreys said.

Adam Bare scored 9 points in the first quarter as Coal Grove went up 10-5, but Peebles rallied to tie the game 23-23 at the half.

The Indians were up 33-32 after three quarters and then outscored the Hornets 20-13 the fourth quarter.

The Hornets were 0 of 12 from the 3-point line and just 17 of 50 from the field overall for just 34 percent.

"We had some open looks from 3-point, and when I say we were open, I'm talking about WIDE open looks. It was just one of those nights," Humphreys said.

Bare led the Hornets with 18 points and Justin Hyland added 10.

Coal Grove, 6-4, hosts Fairland Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

"We have to forget about this one quick because Fairland is getting better every night out," Humphreys said.

Peebles was led by Jacob Ryan with 20 points and Brad Doughman added 13.
