Second verse better than the first.

After losing 92-40 in their first meeting, the St. Joseph Female Flyers made things more difficult the second time before losing 73-45 Thursday to the Rose Hill (Ky.) Royals.

St. Joseph fell behind by 20 points early, then outscored Rose Hill 33-31 the next two quarters. The Lady Royals used a big fourth quarter to win going away.

"We were slow getting started, but once we did we got some confidence and played well in the second and third quarters," Female Flyers coach B.J. Hannon. "But I was proud of the girls. We played hard. After the way they beat us the first time, we could easily have laid down, but we didn't."

Rose Hill went on a 15-0 run to start the game including the first 9 points by Emily Queen. Lindsay Dressel hit a jumper at the 4:35 mark to get St. Joseph on the scoreboard, and a basket by Mallory Hasenauer made it 21-4. Laura Terry hit a 3-pointer and Rose Hill led 24-4 at the end of the first quarter.

But in the second quarter, Dressel and Christina Harvey hit back-to-back baskets and it was 26-14 with 4:36 left in the half.

Queen scored and Terry had two more baskets as Rose Hill went up 32-14. Raven Blake and Danielle Blair scored to cut the deficit to 32-18 and the Female Flyers were down 36-20 at the break.

Blake began the second half with a basket, but Queen and Terry countered at the 5:03 mark and the lead was 40-20.

Harvey and Hasenauer combined to make 3 of 4 from the foul line and it was 41-25 with 4:11 left in the third quarter.

Dressel sank two foul shots with 53 seconds left in the quarter and it was 53-37, but Queen scored at the buzzer and Rose Hill held a 55-37 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Royals used an 8-0 run early in the fourth quarter to take a 68-39 lead and coasted the final 3:20 of the game.

Harvey had 17 points and Dressel 12 to lead the Female Flyers (6-8).

Queen had a game-high 32 points, Terry 17 and Sarah Yates 10 points for Rose Hill (7-5).
