Think of the Teamsters union and what comes to mind?

For the 10 employees at the Lawrence County Clerk of Courts office, Teamsters now means "us".

Documents officially recognizing the union representation in his office were signed in late December, according to Clerk of Courts Les Boggs, who took office after the fact.

Union steward Rhonda Brown said the employees voted in October to join Local 92. "It seems like it's working well for us."

Fellow employee and union steward Carla Haas said employees made the decision because of

"good benefits and job security."

Boggs said he had heard discussions during the election the employees were considering joining the union, but said his employees could expect to be treated fairly with or without formal representation. He said he himself was briefly a member of the United Steel

Workers several years ago while employed at AK Steel.

"We're working together and I'm not anti-union," Boggs said. "We're making great strides together as a team."

The Teamsters union also represents employees at the Lawrence County 911 and the Lawrence County Engineer's Office.
