Panthers advance to finals of SJI

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Playing in the larger school division didn't change much for the Chesapeake Panthers.
After winning the Class A-AA division the past seven years of the Huntington St. Joe Invitational, the Panthers stepped up to the Class AAA division Thursday with similar results.
Brennan Hall scored 26 points as Chesapeake routed the Cabell Midland Knights 72-42 in the semifinals of the SJI.
The Panthers (15-0) play Spring Valley Saturday in the championship game at 9 p.m. Saturday. Spring Valley beat John Marshall 61-43 in the other semifinal.
Brennan Hall hit 12 of 13 field goal attempts as he pumped in 26 points to lead the Panthers. P.J. Rase scored 16 points and Justin Porter added 10.
Selden Edwards had 18 points - 14 in the second half - to lead Cabell Midland (4-10).
Chesapeake, ranked second in the Division III Associated Press poll, took a 17-8 lead after the first quarter and stretched its cushion to 34-16 at the half.
The lead was 48-29 after three quarters and the Panthers blitzed the Knights 24-13 in the final quarter to win going away.
