LUCASVILLE - The shots weren't there, but at least the defense was.

The Chesapeake Lady Panthers struggled with their shooting, but their defense enabled them to beat the North Adams Lady Green Devils 37-27 Wednesday in the Division III sectional semifinals.

The Lady Panthers connected on just 11 of 44 field goal attempts for 25 percent.

"We just couldn't make shots," Chesapeake coach John McClung said. "The shots were there. We missed a lot of easy baskets that we just couldn't knock down.

"We didn't play with a lot of enthusiasm, but we did play defense well and that was the difference."

Brittany Boyle scored 11 points, Noelle Wood had 10 rebounds and Sara Rucker added 8 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Lady Panthers (13-8).

Neither team's offense was productive in the first half. Chesapeake led 4-0 after the first quarter and 14-6 at the half.

Leading 23-13 after the third quarter, Candace Dickerson got all 6 of her points in the fourth quarter and the Lady Panthers converted 8 of 9 from the foul line to seal the win.

Chesapeake plays Eastern Brown at 2:45 p.m. Saturday in the sectional finals. The winner advances to the district tournament Feb. 19.

"Hopefully, we'll shoot better on Saturday and continue to play good defense," McClung said.
