WELLSTON - The St. Joseph Flyers are homebodies.

Five of the Flyers' six wins this season were at home and the only road win was against a winless team. Thus explains Tuesday's 60-38 Division IV sectional tournament loss to the Miller Falcons.

"We're a young team and it seems any time we played away we didn't play well," Flyers coach Kevin Hacker said. "But we're young and I think next year we'll be more mature and we'll step up and play better."

The Falcons placed four players in double figures as they advanced to the sectional finals Saturday against Beaver Eastern.

Josh Gaitten scored 15 points to lead Miller (8-13). Kurt Mauro had 12 points while Curt Luming and Shane Luming had 11 points each.

Corey Lewis topped St. Joseph with 14 points, including three 3-point goals. Ryan Schwab had four rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Flyers (6-14).

Gaitten scored 7 points in the first quarter as Miller pulled away to a 15-7 lead. Kurt Jordan had 3 of the Flyers' points.

The Lumings combined for 13 points in the second quarter as Miller outscored the Flyers 19-13 to go on top 34-20 at the break. Lewis had 6 points.

Each team scored 10 points in the third quarter and it was 44-30. Ryan Staton and Lewis had 4 points each as the Flyers tried to get their offense in gear.

But Gaitten had 6 points in the fourth quarter as Miller extended its lead. Schwab and Lewis combined to score all of the Flyers' 8 points in the quarter.

The Flyers performance left Hacker shaking his head.

"We just didn't play well offensively or defensively. We had too many turnovers and they weren't really pressuring us," Hacker said.
