WILLOW WOOD - Green came to play. Fortunately, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings came to win.

With the Lady Bobcats looking for the upset, Megan Coomes belted a two-run homer over the fence in center field in the fifth inning to lift the Lady Viking to a 3-2 win over Green in a key Southern Ohio Conference game.

"Green came to play," Lady Vikings coach Jeff "Odie" Estep said. "Coomes stepped up and had her second home run in two games to give us the win. She's really hitting the ball right now."

Lori Harmon got the win as she struck out 18

batters, walked just one and allowed four hits.

Green's Erin Hall fanned five, walked three and gave up nine hits.

Symmes Valley won the game in the fifth inning when Emily Bowling singled to leadoff and, after Harmon hit into a fielder's choice, Coomes drilled her home run.

Green got three of its four hits in the fifth inning.

Jennifer Slaughter tripled and scored on a hit by Traci Elrod. An out later, Deidra Perkins doubled to put Green ahead.

Symmes Valley took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Rebecca Capper was safe on an error and Kristen Crabtree doubled.

Symmes Valley, 14-2 and 9-0 in the SOC, plays at Portsmouth Notre Dame Tuesday.

In Friday's game, Coomes clubbed a grand slam home run in the third inning to spark a 7-1 win over Lathan Western.

Harmon had a two-run double in the first inning and went 1-3. Brittany Scott and Bowling were 2-2 to lead the Lady Vikings.
