McDERMOTT - The St. Joseph Flyers are their own worst enemy.

The Flyers were guilty of six errors and 15 walks in losing a doubleheader to the Northwest Mohawks Saturday, 11-0 and 17-6.

"We put the ball in play, we just made a lot of errors and we gave up too many walks," Flyers coach Greg Bryant said. "But Northwest has as good a team as we've seen. It was a good experience for our kids to see that level of competition."

St. Joseph had just two hits in losing the first game. Ryan Schwab was 1-for-1 and Alex Swarts 1-2 for the only St. Joseph hits.

In the second game, the Flyers jumper out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Schwab walked, Kurt Jordan singled him to third and an errant throw allowed the run to score while sending Jordan to third base. Ryan Waginger hit a sacrifice fly to score the runner.

Northwest came back with five runs in the bottom of the inning, but the Flyers answered with two more in the top of the second inning and trailed just 5-4.

Schwab walked, stole second, Jordan singled and Waginger slammed a two-run double.

The Mohawks came right back with five more runs and led 10-4.

The Flyers got a run in the top of the third inning and it was 10-5.

Jeremy Addis had a leadoff double, stole third and came home when the throw went into left field.

But again the Mohawks answered, this time with two runs and it was 12-5.

In the fourth, the Flyers got a run when Schwab singled, stole second, Jordan was safe on an error and Waginger grounded out.

Northwest kept scoring by getting five runs in the bottom of the inning and then kept the Flyers from scoring in the fifth inning to end the game under the 10-run mercy rule.

Jordan and Addis each went 2-3 to lead the Flyers 8-hit attack. Schwab was 1-2 while Aaron Whaley, Swarts and Waginger were all 1-3.

The Flyes hosts Chesapeake Monday.
