Lady Bobcats rally in 7th to notch SOC win

FRANKLIN FURNACE - Even when things go bad, they go good for the Green Lady Bobcats.

Despite a sluggish performance, Green scored twice in the sixth inning to edge the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans 7-5 Wednesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Green is now 8-1 overall and 6-1 in the league.

"It wasn't one of our best games, but the girls showed a lot of character. They battled through it and got the win," Green coach Jessica McIlhenney.

Green took a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Traci Elrod walked, Amanda Avery singled, Deidra Perkins reached on an error, and Shay Richendollar walked to force home a run. Erin Hall then doubled home two more runs.

Notre Dame cut the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the second inning, but the Lady Bobcats answered with a run in the bottom of the inning as Julie Slaughter walked and scored when Perkins singled.

The Lady Titans closed the gap to 4-3 in the third inning. Green then scored a run in the fifth inning to go up 5-3.

Avery walked and scored when Richendollar had an RBI single.

Notre Dame tied the game with two runs in the top of the sixth inning, but Green scored twice in the bottom of the inning to get the win.

Tracy Pennington walked, Courtney Thornsberry singled and Slaughter hit into a fielder's choice as both runners came home to score.

Hall went 2-for-4 as Green had six hits.

The Lady Bobcats host Chesapeake Thursday.
