CHESHIRE - The Rock Hill Redwomen needed to keep in step, so they stepped on the River Valley Lady Raiders.

Needing a win to stay in the Ohio Valley Conference race, Rock Hill knocked off the Lady Raiders 8-1 Monday.

"This was a good win. It keeps the race tight and we still have a chance," Rock Hill coach Mary Harper said.

The Redwomen are now 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the OVC.

Rock Hill got a run in the first inning when Bobbi Harper walked and Katrina Settle doubled.

After River Valley tied the game in the second inning on a hit by Potter and a fielder's choice, Rock Hill scored twice in the third inning to take the lead for good at 3-1.

Heather Gore singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, and Shelli Harper doubled in the runner. Melissa McFann followed with a hit, stole second, and Bobbi Harper hit into a fielder's choice as the run scored.

The Redwomen made it 4-0 in the fourth when Candace Chaffins had a base hit and Heather Kelley reached on an error.

Four runs came across in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach.

Gore and Shelli Harper walked and McFann singled for a run. Bobbi Harper singled in two more runs, then stole second and third and scored when Settle hit a sacrifice fly.

On Saturday, the Redwomen split a pair of games with two Division I schools.

Rock Hill outhit Pickerington North 5-to-2 but five errors led to a 3-2 loss.

In the second game, Rock Hill banged out 19 hits and routed Piqua 19-1. Bobbi Harper went 4-for-4, Melissa McFann was 4-5, Brooke Long 3-4, Shelli Harper 2-4 and Katrina Settle 2-5.
