JACKSON - It was supposed to be a game of give and take. It ended up being all give and no take.

Rock Hill committed seven errors that proved to be too much of a gift to overcome as the Redmen lost 8-4 to the Jackson Ironmen Thursday in the Division II sectional tournament finals.

"We gave them too much and didn't get enough," Redmen coach Barry Litteral said. "The errors just killed us."

"We hit the ball well, but their outfielders did a nice job coming back to the ball and making the catch."

Rock Hill took a 2-0 lead with two outs in the first inning.

Justin Lavender walked and Matt Wilson tripled for the first run. Michael Williams was hit by a pitch and Josh Moore singled home the run.

Jackson answered with four unearned runs in the bottom of the inning.

Tommy Baker singled and went to third on an error. Grant Arthur reached on an error for a run and Jared Humphreys followed with a two-run homer.

Wes Skaggs then singled, took second on an error and scored when Brenton Whalen beat out an infield single.

The Ironmen stretched the lead to 7-2 in the second inning.

Baker singled, took second on a ground out, and went to third when Humphreys was safe on an error. Skaggs also reached on an outfield error that scored two runs. Whalen then hit a sacrifice fly.

Jackson's final run scored in the fourth inning when Whalen walked with two outs and scored on Jordan's ensuing base hit.

The Redmen got two runs in the sixth.

Wilson reached on an error and Williams doubled him home. Moore followed with an RBI single.

Rock Hill finished 12-7 on the season, the first winning season since 1993.

"The kids played hard. It was a good season. The kids were great to coach. It was a lot of fun," Litteral said.

Jackson is now 19-8.
