Redwomen win sectional thriller

PEDRO - It was a game of questions and answers. As it turned out, the Rock Hill Redwomen had one additional answer.

The Rock Hill Redwomen got a run in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday to slip past the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers 3-2 in the Division III sectional tournament semifinals.

"It was an exciting game. Both teams played well. They would score and we were able to answer," Redwomen coach Mary Harper said.

After a scoreless first inning, the Redwomen went up 1-0 in the second inning. Candice Chaffins reached on an error and

Heather Gore singled her home.

Ironton tied the game in the third inning. Eden Runyon, Edi Taylor and Lindsey Mooney all singled to load the bases and Kelsey Bronson walked to force in the run.

Rock Hill took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning. Mandi Estep and Bobbi Harper singled and Katrina Settle doubled.

The Lady Fighting Tigers tied the game once again in the seventh inning.

Tracy Mays walked, Brandi Norris was safe on a fielder's choice and a throwing error allowed Mays to score.

Rock Hill then won the game with a run in the bottom of inning.

Estep singled to start the inning, moved to second base on a wild pitch and came home on Bobbi Harper's base hit.

Estep got the win as she struck out three and walked two. Mays struck out 10 and walked only one in taking the loss.

Settle was 3-for-3, Estep 3-4 and Harper 2-4 to pace Rock Hill. Runyon was 2-4 to lead seven different Ironton players to get a hit.

Rock Hill, 17-5, plays at South Point at 5 p.m. Thursday in the sectional finals.
