Fireworks still mostly illegal in area

Ooohs and ahhs will be heard all about the Tri-State this weekend with the sight of fireworks.
In Ohio, those sights must be left to professionals because the average person has a limited selection to set off themselves - legally at least.
"There are only four types of fireworks that can be let off in Ohio," Ironton Fire Inspector Mike Mahlmeister said. "They are sparklers, smoke bombs, snakes and snaps."
Patricia Cooper, owner of Crazy Coo Fireworks in Wheelersburg, said she encourages people to be cautious when letting off fireworks. She said they will answer any questions people have about the pieces they are purchasing.
"Of course we can't talk to everybody, but we will take the time to explain how to use something if they ask," Cooper said.
Mahlmeister advised that people should stick to watching fireworks in the area this weekend and let the professionals handle them.
"Take advantage of the fireworks that will be set off in Coal Grove and Ashland. They put on pretty good shows," Mahlmeister said.
