COAL GROVE - The rain came, but it was the Rocky Top Raceway track that supplied the lightning.

Despite a rain delay, races continued on a lightning-fast track Friday for cars in all three divisions.

At the start of the late model A-main, Jason Montgomery took the lead into turns one and two. On the backstretch, Tom Hall had a flat tire as the first caution flag waved. Hall's pit crew went to work in the pits and got the tire changed in time for Hall to rejoin the field.

On the restart, Montgomery continued with the lead while Kenny Christy settled into the second position, a few car lengths behind Montgomery.

Meanwhile, the battle for third was the best on track as Randy Boggs and Kevin Wagner battled side by side. Behind them, Terry Hicks moved into the top five while C.A. Wentz continued a big charge up to the top six.

With three laps to go, Christy, who had been three to four car lengths behind leader Montgomery the entire race, moved within a car length of the lead. With Christy still hounding Montgomery into turns three and four coming to the white flag, Montgomery, down low got a little sideways as Christy, up high, took the lead. That wouldn't count, though, as

Hall would spin in turns one and two.

Unfortunately, under the caution, Montgomery wasn't able to fire back up as he was done for the evening. Another tough break occurred under the caution as third-place runner Wagner pulled off. All of a sudden, the second- and third-place cars were out.

On the restart to decide the race, Boggs took a peak inside Christy into turn one. Boggs just wouldn't have enough as

Christy pulled away to take his fourth win of the season at Rocky Top with Boggs in second.

Hicks finished third with Wentz in fourth and Hall and Ramey rounding out the top six. Montgomery and Christy were heat race winners.

In the second attempted start in the modified A-main, Eddie Harmon got the lead coming out of turn two with Todd Robinson settled behind him in second.

Meanwhile, last week's winner David McWilliams charged all the way up to fourth and battled side by side for third with Bill Dement. On lap three, Dement and McWilliams got together while racing hard for the position. McWilliams was charged with the caution.

On the restart, Harmon continued his big lead over Robinson in second. Jason Perry, who started on the last row, continued his furious charge as he ran side by side with Brock Chaney, who had been in the top five for most the race, for fourth.

Perry got by Chaney on lap seven to take the position. The next lap, Tackett got by Chaney now for fifth. Battles in the top 10 continued side by side and even three wide as McWilliams and Adam Colley continued to move up through the field.

On the last lap, Harmon, who continued with his big lead, came to the checkered flag to take his first win of the season at Rocky Top with Robinson in second, Dement in third, Perry in fourth and Tackett in fifth. McWilliams and Colley moved up to get top eight finishes.

Harmon and Robinson were heat race winners.

In the bomber A-main, polesitter Davey Dunn took the lead into turns one and two.

While Dunn led, the battle for second went side by side between Jeremie Bretz and Conard Newman. Behind them, Brett Carey and Micheal Howard would go side by side for the fourth position. In the battle for second, Conard Newman finally got by Bretz and set his sights on leader Dunn.

Nobody would have enough for Dunn though as he took his first win of the season at Rocky Top.

Newman and Bretz went side by side at the line for second with the lapped car of Zack Dunn in between them. Bretz got the position by inches as he finished second with Newman in third, Micheal Howard in fourth and Brett Carey fifth.

The race went flag to flag without a caution. Dunn and Bretz were heat race winners.
