SOUTH POINT - Ron and Janie Duty really believe there is "no place like home."

The family's store of the same name is located in the very house Ron Duty grew up in.

"This is the house my husband grew up in - it's his home place," Janie Duty said.

No Place Like Home is located at 161 Township Road 1020 in South Point, the first street on the left behind Lowe's. The store has a myriad of country gifts and home d\u00E9cor items including jams and jellies (also sugar free), The Willow Tree figurines, McCall's Candles, gourmet foods and gift ideas for any occasion or just for treating yourself.

One of the store's newest items is wooden chandeliers. They also carry Olde Century Paint, jar candle warmers, linens and curtains, and Farmhouse Room Sprays.

Janie Duty's father, Ralph Early, has painted various murals in the store, including a lighthouse scene and a tree that stretches behind the cash register that often catches visitor's attention as they round the corner. As you get closer, you can notice that small flowers are hanging down out of the painted tree.

Also, beside the cash register sits a small mailbox that when opened holds many pieces of candy for the younger customers to enjoy after shopping.

These sights combined with the soothing classical music and the amazing smells of candles are what the Duty's hope make customers feel at home.

"I like to come here because it calms me down, it's soothing," Brenda Hamlin, a frequent customer of the store said.

Hamlin said that she comes in the store often and she has purchased many items for her home such as pictures, primitive things, lamps and Saltbox greeting cards.

"I've bought a lot of things here," she said with a smile as she browsed the store.

The store celebrated their three year anniversary in April and Duty said that her favorite thing about having the store has been the friends that she has made and being able to help people decorate their homes. She said that her dream would be to have a country tea room one day.

"I've made a lot of new friends and I help ladies to make their home a little bit of heaven on earth," Duty said.

No Place Like Home is open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The phone number is (740) 894-9000.
