SOUTH POINT - South Point Middle School was vandalized three separate times over the summer. Officials need more information to find those responsible for the vandalism, and they are asking for the community's help.

"It's very disappointing," middle school principal Les York said of the school's vandalism.

In two of the incidents, windows were broken out of the school and in the third vandals climbed on top of the roof and painted graffiti. Assistant principal Sandy Mers agreed that the incidents were sad and said that the students responsible were damaging the reputations of the entire student body.

"We have a community of wonderful students and a few are damaging our whole reputation," Mers said.

York said that if anyone has any information that would be helpful in locating the people responsible for the vandalism, please contact him at the middle school at (740) 377-4343.

"Everything will be held in confidence," York said.

South Point Police officer Matt Vance said that they are still having a lot of other vandalism in the area as well. Vance said people are still busting car windows out.

Vance encourages residents to take their valuables inside their homes, and to be aware of their surroundings and to remember to be safe.

"Be more safe and be aware of who is around," Vance said.

Anyone with information can contact the South Point Police Department at (740) 377-4011 or the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department at (740) 532-3525.
