Fighting Tigers third in computer ratings

The high school football polls are nice to talk about, but they're not as interesting as the computer ratings.

There will be plenty of talk from now until the final weekend of the season after the first release of the Ohio High School Athletic Association computer football playoff ratings.

Ironton (3-1) is third in the Region 15 of Division IV with a 7.0750 average. The Fighting Tigers have made 23 playoff appearances including seven straight.

Bellaire leads the region with a 9.3440 average followed by Heath in second place with a 7.9750 total.

Piketon at 6.6500 was fourth followed by New Lexington, Byesville Meadowbrook and Portsmouth West.

Bishop Hartley is ninth and South Point was 10th with a 4.9250 average.

In Region 19 of Division V, Coal Grove (3-1) is 12th with a 4.0390 average.

Columbus Bishop Ready tops the region with East Knox second. Trimble, up from Division VI, is fourth while Wheelersburg (2-2) is eighth with a 5.1000 average.

Symmes Valley (2-2) is ninth in Region 23 of Division VI with a 3.1500 average. Green (3-1) is 11th with a 2.9750 total.

Lancaster Fisher Catholic and Newark Catholic are 1-2 in the region.

The top eight teams in each region of each division qualifies for the playoffs. The OHSAA updates the ratings each Tuesday.
