COLUMBUS (AP) - What's brewing today with the 2005 Ohio State Buckeyes …
BUCKEYE BUZZ: James Hardy not only is a WR for Indiana, but also is a member of the Hoosiers basketball team. Ohio State coach Jim Tressel was asked how difficult it was to play football and basketball at the same time and whether he would encourage a player to do it.
‘‘I tried to encourage LeBron,'' Tressel said.
HE'S BACK: Look for LB Mike D'Andrea to take more of an active role in the Buckeyes defense this week at Indiana. D'Andrea, seeing his first action after recovering from knee surgery, played only on special teams in last week's win over Michigan State. With another week of practice, he's not ready to play substantial minutes but could get on the field for some snaps against Indiana.
QUOTE OF THE SERIES: After losing to Indiana 31-10 in 1987 for Ohio State's first loss to the lowly Hoosiers in 36 years, Buckeyes coach Earle Bruce said, ‘‘This is the darkest day in Ohio State history.''
NOTEWORTHY: The Ohio State honorary captain this week is former LB and current New England Patriots defensive line coach Pepper Johnson, the father of Ohio State FB Dionte Johnson. Pepper Johnson was a two-time co-captain at Ohio State and named first-team all-Big Ten in 1984 and 1985. He won two Super Bowls with the Giants as a player and three more with the Patriots as a coach. He will speak at the team breakfast Saturday morning.
