Ohio ground game beats Ball State

ATHENS (AP) - Kalvin McRae rushed for 268 yards and a touchdown and Austen Everson ran for two scores to lead Ohio to a 38-21 win over Ball State on Saturday.

Wide receiver Justin Fitzgerald also had an 80-yard touchdown run for the Bobcats (3-4, 2-2 Mid-American Conference), who finished with 414 yards rushing on 52 carries.

Joey Lynch completed 23 of 34 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown for Ball State (1-6, 1-3). Louis Johnson had seven receptions for 132 yards.

The Cardinals lost two fumbles and converted only 1 of 11 third downs.

Ohio led 3-0 after the first quarter but the two teams erupted for 42 points in the second, including three touchdowns in a span of 25 seconds.

Everson had a 1-yard TD run to make it 10-0 with 14:14 left. Dante Love then returned the ensuing kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown for Ball State.

Ohio's Scott Mayle then finished off the scoring binge, taking the Cardinals kickoff back 88 yards to make it 17-7 with 13:49 remaining in the second.

McRae tacked on a 41-yard TD run and the Bobcats led 31-14 at halftime.

Charles Wynn had 14 carries for 54 yards and a touchdown for the Cardinals, who finished with 340 yards of offense.

Matt Muncy had 10 tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery for the Bobcats.

McRae's 268 rushing yards was the third-highest single-game total in school history.

ALLIANCE, Ohio (AP) - For 11 years, the streak has grown for Mount Union. A 110-game regular-season winning streak. A 100-game Ohio Athletic Conference winning streak.

Thanks to Ohio Northern's R.J. Meadows, the Purple Raiders will have to start counting at one next week.

Meadows rushed for 148 yards and three touchdowns and Ohio Northern upset Mount Union 21-14 Saturday to give the Purple Raiders their first regular-season loss since 1994.

The Polar Bears (6-1, 5-1) held the ball for almost 37 minutes, rushed for 217 yards and forced four Mount Union turnovers. They had lost 22 straight against the Purple Raiders.
