STEWART - The Federal Hocking Lady Lacers tried to take the heart away but the Coal Grove Lady Hornets didn't skip a beat.

While the Lancers tried to focus on Coal Grove leading scorer Chelsea Markins, teammates Samantha Hall and Jordyn Cox took over the offense as the Lady Hornets rolled to a 57-32 win Saturday.

Hall and Cox had 15 points each as Coal Grove improved to 2-1. Markins still managed to score 10 points.

&#8220We've had two games where people have opened up in a box-and-one on Chelsea and she still scores some, but the other girls are left open and the other kids are pitching in and hitting their shots,” Hornets coach Nick Miller said.

&#8220We're getting a little better at playing against the box-and-one. It could be frustrating for Chelsea, but she's adjusted well. She's been getting the ball to the open man. She just wants to win.”

Samantha Hall scored six points and Cox drained a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter as Coal Grove jumped on the Lady Lancers 15-11.

Coal Grove pulled away to a 28-18 lead at the half.

Hall got six more points and the defense held Federal Hocking to three points as the Lady Hornets opened up a 39-21 lead.

Federal Hocking (1-2) was led by Emily Dunfee with 11 points and Allison Deddens added 10.

Coal Grove hosts New Boston next Saturday.

In the reserve game, Federal Hocking won 30-23. Taylor Sexton had eight points for the Lady Hornets.
