Museum puts Santa on display

Some area youth had lunch with jolly old St. Nicholas on Saturday but they also had the chance to hop on a “sleigh” of their own.
The Lawrence County Historical Society sponsored “Lunch with Santa Claus” at the Lawrence County Museum.
The society puts on a Christmas program for children every year and this year’s theme is “The Night Before Christmas.”
“We’re having a wonderful crowd today, probably around 100 people,” said Bob Price, a trustee for the Lawrence County Historical Society.
“We do something for the children every year.”
The museum was decorated for the season. Weber’s Florist decorated the stairway and the tree atop the stairs and society members, such as Price who decorated three rooms in the museum, did the rest.
The youth could sit on Santa’s lap and tell him what they wanted for Christmas, eat some pizza and take a horse drawn wagon ride.
Although Santa is always popular this time of the year, the horses were giving him some stiff competition on Saturday afternoon.
Seven-year-old Daniel Arthur and his 4-year-old sister, Jessica, both said they were ready for Santa to come to their house.
Jessica said she told Santa she wanted a Furby and a doll for Christmas, while her brother wants a Mortal Kombat and a karate kickboxing game.
When asked what was their favorite part of the program they both were quick with an answer.
“The horses,” they said.
According to their family, when the pair saw the big horses they could hardly wait to get out of the car.
Both said they had a great time at the event.
“The museum tries to accommodate the children,” Price said. “We try to have programs for all ages.”
As youth came inside for lunch and Santa, another group would head outside to catch a ride on the wagon.
Although it was a little chilly, all in attendance said it was a great day to spread a little holiday cheer.
