But they outscored the Redwomen 18-4 in the third quarter and came away with a 63-45 Ohio Valley Conference win Monday.

“We came out and turned up the defensive intensity in the third quarter,” Lady Pointers coach Dave Adams said. “The first half they outplayed us. They hustled and played good defense.

“We didn’t change anything, we just matched or exceeded their intensity and we played hard.”

Rock Hill coach Matt Fulks was pleased with his team’s effort despite the loss.

“I told the girls the first three minutes were the key and they came out and got on a roll,” Redwomen coach Matt Fulks said. “We’re a little shorthanded and we just wore down.

“We got a heck of a game out of Michelle Pancake. She hit the boards hard and had a good offensive game.”

South Point is now 12-4 overall and tied Coal Grove for first place in the OVC at 7-1.

Jessica Craft scored 22 points and Amy Frasure had 20 points including four 3-pointers to lead South Point.

“We played defense and it turned into fastbreaks. Amy and Jessica have been shooting pretty well,” Adams said.

Pancake led Rock Hill with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Mandi McKenzie added 11 points for the Redwomen (6-11, 3-6).

The game was tight throughout the first half.

Frasure hit two 3-pointers and Craft scored six points for a 12-4 lead, but Kelsey Harris hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer as Rock Hill closed to within 14-13 at the end of the first quarter.

Craft scored seven points but Pancake had 11 points in the second quarter while Craft countered with seven points as the Lady Pointers held a slim 30-28 halftime lead.

But in the third quarter, Frasure scored 10 points including a pair of 3-pointers as the lead grew to 48-32.
