BEAVER — The Green Bobcats were like a car engine trying to start on a Minnesota morning.

Not gonna happen.

The Green Bobcats struggled early and never recovered as they lost 65-50 to the Eastern Eagles Tuesday in a key Southern Ohio Conference game.

“We didn’t get off to the good start and played a lot of catch up. We felt fortunate to be down only 10 at the half,” Green coach Kevin Lewis said.

The loss left Green with an 8-5 record overall but more importantly 6-2 in the SOC.

Derek Lewis scored 19 points and had five assists for Green. Brian Ramey had 18 points and 11 rebounds.

John Slone scored 22 points for Eastern while Zach Alexander and A.J. Osborne scored 12 each.

Osborne scored eight points in the first quarter as Eastern took a 16-7 lead. Lewis had five of Green’s points.

Slone ignited a 20-point second quarter for Eastern and it was 36-26 at the half. Ramey had nine points and Lewis six in the second quarter.

John Bowen, Ramey and Lewis scored four points each in the third quarter as Green closed the gap to within six point. But Slone scored 11 points and helped the Eagles open up 55-41 lead.

“We put together a nice run in the third quarter but we couldn’t get over the hump. They did a nice job building their lead back up,” coach Lewis said.

Green hosts Portsmouth East Friday in an SOC game.
